Commissioner Nancy Jester is honored to introduce the implementation of the new citizen led DeKalb County Citizens Nuisance Business and Blight Committee.Businesses that have repeatedly and willfully ignored code violations and businesses which fail to uphold community standards, can have a negative impact on county property values, propagate criminal activity, and weaken the County’s overall economic development efforts.

The DeKalb County Citizens Nuisance Business and Blight Committee will work across DeKalb County. The Committee will study accumulated data against businesses that have repeatedly failed to take reasonable steps to correct objectionable conditions and businesses that have not responded to complaints for violations of code.

The DeKalb County Citizens Nuisance Business and Blight Committee will deliver a report to DeKalb County taxpayers, Board of Commissioners, and the Administration upon completion of their initial work. The report will address recommended policies, correlation to the quality of life, enforcement strategies, and budgetary implications regarding businesses that have repeatedly failed to take reasonable steps objectionable conditions and violations of code under the DeKalb County Code of Organizational Code of Ordinances, Chapter 18.
