To improve mobility on I-285, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), optional express lanes consisting of one new buffer-separated (pavement markings) express lane in each direction on I-285 between I-20 and Henderson Road in DeKalb County. The I-285 Eastside Express Lanes will be part of the larger Georgia Express Lanes system. The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2022. This will be the largest transportation project in Tucker since the completion of I-285 in 1970.
